I’m a little disappointed we didn’t get SCHLITZ GUSTO GUYS in all CAPS, but I’m happy to see the name change.  The end of the season will have a little different feel to it since we won’t be playing Varmits or Varmit Jrs.  We may also have to celebrate processed food night a week early at Lac Lavon, since the last week of the year we have late games.  That is okay.  The last time we had PFN at LL we had a very strong showing to help celebrate.

I am ready and excited.  We begin to taper our workouts now so we are at our peak on April 28, 2010 at 6:00pm.

Week  #1

After a rainout on the scheduled opening pitch the SFRC got it going at SFRCP. 

The SFRC broke into Autumn Ball with a win vs. Almost All-Stars (14-10).  It was a perfect night out and good times were had.  We struggled a bit in the second game of the evening falling to Almost All-Stars 25-13). 

We welcomed the addition of M-Dub, C-Dub’s brother. 

Quote of the night: “I think he’s a pedophile.”  We’ll keep the target and speaker anonymous. 

Week #2

Week #2 almost didn’t happen.  As of 7pm September 1^st we only had seven players.  Sans was ready to mail it in, but Brain and T-Mac wouldn’t have it.  SFRC had another perfect night for two games!  Thanks to Bruce, Pauly and Potter we played two games.  In Game #1 we scratched and clawed and Sans pitched a brilliant game leading the FRC to a 4-3 victory over Railroad Specialties.  The FRC fell to Speady Turtles in Game #2 17-2.

We missed out on the presence of Lars Sr. due to a potentially bad Council Bluffs sandwich.  It was an unfortunate mishap indeed.  Numbers don’t lie, we don’t lose in the presence of Lars Sr.  We did, however, have a full crew of SFRC faithful.  The Brain family, TO, Patsy and ____, and Mrs. Cinco along with the debut of Poco Cinco. 

The downside is that the FRC were flat.  Flat from the get-go.  The result was an 0-2 evening at the “now-so-foreign” Lac Lavon. 

Game #1 vs. “Sons of Varmits”

The first pitch was thrown at exactly 7:00pm Walt time (generally more accurate than GMT).  The SFRC started playing at about 7:09pm.  The FRC allowed 11 to cross the plate in the top of the 1^st.  But in typical FRC fashion, we plated nine of our own in the bottom of the 1^st to make it a two run game.  However, the FRC booted the ball and threw the ball all over the field on their way to a 14-21 loss to the “Sons of Varmits.” 

There is no excuse for us losing to this team.  Not when it is the senior players, nor the JV squad that played on June 3^rd. 

There were many K’s, pop outs, double plays, etc.  In fact, I think the game ended on a double play.  YUCK.

Game #2 vs. H-Bomb

We were back and forth with H-Bomb again.  This seems to happen every time we play them.  H-Bomb’s did have 10 players for possible the first time in their franchise’s history.  With Walt behind the dish anything can happen.  The SFRC found a way to stay in this game for awhile.  The wind was blowing out to center on Field A, but no HRs were hit be either team.  The FRC left the bases loaded twice and the FRC shortstop booted a few balls and left his thinker in the dugout on a lineout, and let the runner on third score.  You really don’t see a “SAC” on an F6 too often.  Especially when the ball never left the infield.   

Final score:   SFRC 10 – H-Bombs 15

We can’t thank the fans enough for their support.  At one point a blow horn and some wind won you fan of the game, see here.  However, that has been out done.  It is no longer an easy award to win.  The competition was stiff last week.  However, if there was ever a guarantee, it happened on June 3, 2009.  Poco Cinco made his SFRC debut and for that, he automatically wins FAN OF THE GAME!

The subject was: 2009 Summer softball league

The message read: Good Evening Skyline FRC ball players: We are scheduled to play Men’s D/E Recreational Wednesday nights, starting on April 29: 12-weeks of double header fun! As of today, there are 63 days until “balm.” 

This is one of my two favorite emails every year.  The other is when the annual trip to Las Vegas is booked.

Worth noting: October and early November has been filled with “Mrs. H” days.  The Burnsville Park and Rec should start a “Winter League” that plays for six weeks in October and November.  The FRC could delay their offseason routine to participate. 

We look forward to April, 2009. 

All friends, family, former players, current / former employees are invited to watch world class D/E Recreational League softball at Neill Park in Burnsville and then join us for some food and drinks after the games. 

Come at 6pm and grab one of the few seats that will likely be available to watch some of the best softball you will ever witness, or, come at 8pm and hangout with food, drinks and FRC softball players.
